when the clock strikes midnight i know i've gotta get out away from this broken life out of this over-crowded house cause if i stay and they put that bottle in my face i won't see a mistake but a perfect door to my escape so they'll say to drink up and i won't stand up for what i was brought up to always hold up so i'll get messed up and probably end up givin' it all up in some shallow hook-up so when i wake up still wearin' my makeup i'll be so fed up for bein a screw up and i've got so many ups in my life so why do i feel so down i'm bottoms up with a drink in my hand i know i'm askin' to sleep on a bed of nails not movin' an inch afraid my innocence will be impaled if i could send myself a letter from the future to my past i'd make sure to warn myself those temporary pleasures never last they say to drink up and i don't stand up for what i was brought up to always hold up so i get messed up and always end up givin' it all up in some shallow hook-up so when i wake up still wearin' my makeup i get so fed up for bein' a screw up and i've got so many ups in my life so why do i feel so down i'm bottoms up bottoms up at the base of my well of worn out words tryin' desperately to re-evaluate my worth so i cry my eyes out but does that mean my lesson's learned oh no, i forget the pain and go back to bein' burned i'll continue failin' till i surrender my life to my Lord makin' mediocre motivations hold my self-inflicting sword so when they say to drink up i'll finally stand up i won't suck up with what i know is wrong i won't mess up i finally 'fess up i've gotta grow up quit playin' along so when i wake up to see the sun's up i'll be proud i shaped up and finally looked up to Him
