"A BEAUTIFUL EVENING OF BEAUTIFUL MUSIC BY TWO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE".Saturday Review. The famous recital in New York,which had to be repeated nine days later due to popular demand.Unprecedented. The two friends just happened to be in New York at the same time. There are many written commentaries about these two recitals,so I shall be brief in my quotations,and editing. Harold C. Schonberg,New York Times review-- "It was a happy day when these two supreme artists decided to join forces.May it happen more often!Miss de los Angeles can still project a song in a manner that can tear the heart out of a brass idol.Her voice has deteriorated remarkably little through the years,and it still has that intimacy,that velvet texture,that makes it unique.And a singer of her vast experience knows how to cover up and pace herself.One or two high notes that threatened to go badly were immediately adjusted. Even before the concert started,there was the buzz of anticipation that heralds a real Event.------. The audience would gladly have kept Miss de los Angeles and Miss de Larrocha going for the entire night." Omus Hirschbein,Administrator-----. "At the end there were roses,roses everywhere.To those who attended the recitals these words were as symbolic as they were literal.-----. Remembering the many hundreds who had been turned away,I asked Miss de los Angeles and Miss de Larrocha if they would consent to give their recital once again.They agreed on a date nine days later,and that appearance was also sold out.------.
