Back

A visit to Steamtown National Historic Site, May, 2008. Located in Scranton, Pennsylvania the Steamtown National Historic Site has preserved much of the railroad collection from the late F. Nelson Blount of New England. Blount, a seafood processor and cranberry farmer began rescuing steam locomotives and railcars in the nineteen fifties and sixties. His collection, orignally located in North Walpole, New Hampshire; relocated to Bellows Falls, Vermont. Under the guidance of railroad photographer Don Ball, Jr. The railroad equipment and steam locomotives began moving to Scranton, PA in 1985, operating out of a portion of former Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad yards, in downtown Scranton. In 1988 the not for profit Steamtown Foundation was forced into bankruptcy. At that time the National Park Service came to Steamtown's aid and purchased the remaining equipment. These photos are dedicated to Mr. F. Nelson Blount, the founder. Congressman Joseph McDade for securing the federal governments assistance in the development of the National Historic Site, the people of Scranton for their hospitality and the National Park Service for its continued support of a "National Treasure." Brian P. Roslund President, CEO Susquehanna Valley Railroad Company, Inc.
