Dillinger - Two Time Love (1976)

Back

Canadian band Dillinger with the song "Two Time Love" from the 1976 album "Don't Lie To The Band" Jacques Harrison (flute, sax, organ, lead vocals) Robert Harrison (percussion, vocals) Paul Cockburn (electric guitar, 12 & 6 string acoustic, vocals) Terry Bramhall (bass, accordian, vocals) Dillinger was formed by brothers Jacques and Robert Harrison in 1973. In 1974 the band signed with and released their debut album, 'Dillinger', on Daffodil Records. The record only had four songs featuring a 17 minute suite called "Live & Return" and a cover version of Spirit's "Nature's Way". The album was met with indifference, but constant live gigging provided an audience for their more accessible follow-up, 'Don't Lie To The Band', in 1976. The album was produced by Daffodil president Frank Davies. Initial recording began in October 1975 at Wind River and Pro Sound Studios in Michigan. Dillinger utilized the production team at Toronto Sound Terry Brown, Steve Vaughan and John Woloschuk (the same team who would complete Klaatu's debut LP in 1976) to complete the Dillinger album from late Fall 1975 to January 1976. The album featured more cover tunes in Spooky Tooth's "Two Time Love" and The Beatles' "Taxman" as well as a large selection of Paul Cockburn originals. Drummer Robert Harrison was homesick for his native Quebec and would return to join Offenbach. With his, and soon, bassist Terry Branhall's departure Dillinger's long and sprawling progressive leanings subsided. This left the band with a fresh start for hold-over members Jacques Harrison and Paul Cockburn who brought in bassist Brian Gagnon (Bullrush), drummer Paul Kersey (Max Webster) and eventually multi-instrumentalist Gerry Mosby (Bond) to solidify a new, tougher, hard rock line-up which was christened by manager Cliff Hunt as The Hunt. Both Dillinger albums were re-issued on CD by Unidisc in the late 1990's. With notes from Brian Gagnon
