Police Program Brings Missing Conway Child Home
BackMay 15, 2008 @09:11pm CST One more Arkansas child is safe at home tonight, thanks to the Morgan Nick Foundation and the Clarksville Police Department. Less than 2 weeks ago, Clarksville Police announced a program that features photographs of missing kids on the back of police cars. Less than 24 hours after that program debuted, one of those kids was recovered. Pictures on police cars is simple enough, but the brains behind the concept say there's no simple way to express their joy at how well it's working. "We were absolutely confident that there would be results by featuring children on police cars, but we were astonished and surprised and thrilled when less than 24 hours after the cars debuted a child was recovered directly from the photographs," says Colleen Nick, with the Morgan Nick Foundation. Endangered runaway Dixie Rogers of Conway has been reunited with her family. "Someone else saw the news and saw that her picture was being featured on a car and made a phone call to the person who was holding her and said you better get her out of your house of you're gonna end up in jail," says Nick. Here's what dixie's mother has to say "I am so thankful for the Morgan Nick Foundation and the Clarksville Police Department. It is because of what they did that I have my daughter back. Without a doubt it got the attention of the person who was hiding Dixie, resulting in her homecoming." "Every child who's not home where they're supposed to be is missing and deserves the resources to be found, Nick says. Colleen Nick, mother of missing child Morgan Nick who was taken 13 years ago, works tirelessly to put more pictures on the recovery wall. But Colleen says photos on police cruisers may also inspire some very important dialogue between parents and kids. "They're gonna look around to the back seat and they're gonna start conversations just about being proactive and about empowering their children, we're gonna see children protected because of this," Nick says. Clarksville police have challenged all law enforcement agencies in Arkansas to take part in this campaign. Colleen Nick say she's gotten calls from two sheriff's departments and one police department that are interested. There are currently 380 active missing children cases in the state of Arkansas.
