Drop Tower at Kings Island

Back

Best adrenaline rush at Kings Island! I took this video while waiting in line. At :15 you can hear a girl yelling from the ride "I'M GONNA BE ON YOUTUBE!" lol Drop Tower is manufactured by Intamin AG, the same company that designed the legendary Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster and Maverick. Drop Tower is 315 feet tall. You are secured with a shoulder harness and buckle with your feet dangling. This ride holds 40 riders. The disk slowly turns in one full 360 as it goes up the tower, and comes to rest at the top. Count 6 seconds after you hear the motor stop humming and that is approximately when you will drop, but there is really no way to know exactly the moment when you will drop, it is so fast it takes your breath away for a second. It uses gravity to drop you a distance of 267 feet in 3 seconds at 65 mph. I ride with my hands out so I feel the full force of the drop! I used to be terrified of this ride, but now it's my favorite in the park. *** ANY AND ALL COMMENTS REFERRING TO THE INCIDENT AT SIX FLAGS WILL BE DELETED IMMEDIATELY!!!!! First of all, the incident happened on a second generation drop tower at Six Flags, this is a third generation drop tower at a park owned by Cedar Fair. Different mechanisms, different cars completely, different rides in different places, different maintenance. Not to mention every drop ride in existence was shut down and inspected to assure that something like this would never happen again, so please do not post comments without first getting your facts straight. =)
