(July 27)Albert Pujols smacked a 2-run homer in the top of the 14th inning, as the Cardinals beat the NL East leading Mets 10-8.---------------------------------------------------- Pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs hit a three-run homer in a seven-run fifth inning, as Philadelphia rallied past Atlanta 10-9 Saturday.Dobbs has 5 career pinch-hit home runs, two this year.SOT: Greg DobbsBraves pitcher Mike Hampton got roughed up in his return to the major leagues. In his first appearance in nearly 3 years, Hampton couldn't protect a 9-3 lead. The two-time All-Star overcame two major operations on his left elbow and various other injuries just to get back to the bigs. Mark Teixeira hit a three-run homer during Atlanta's nine-run fourth inning.But it wasn't enough, and the Braves lost their 25th straight one-run game on the road. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The New York Yankees won their 8th straight game Saturday, beating the Red Sox at Fenway Park 10-3.Big day for Robinson Cano, who homered and had 3 RBI. With the win, the Yanks moved to within one game of the 2nd-place BoSox in the AL East.---------------------------------The Rays lead the Red Sox by 2 games, 3 over New York.Carl Crawford hit a 2-run triple in the 8th inning, as the Rays beat the Royals 5-3.---------------------------------------------------The Marlins beat the Cubs 3-2 in 12 innings. That dropped Chicago into a tie for first with Milwaukee atop the NL Central.Jeremy Hermida scored the go-ahead run in the 12th on Jorge Cantu's double. Hermida also homered twice.Rich Harden struck out 10 for the third time in three starts with the Cubs.But the Marlins fought back to win despite striking out 20 times. They're tied with the Phillies for 2nd place in theNL East, a game-and-a-half behind the Mets.
