That is through capturing the avatar (yada yada yada...) Katara wants to escape the prejudice against her as a female warrior. They find their medium in the other. Thus they start to use the other, and find that they can't take it. Zuko really wants to escape the madness of his family. Katara just wants to be accepted. lol, emo description, huh?
