*PLEASE READ VIDEO DESCRIPTION BEFORE COMMENTING...I HATE ANSWERING QUESTIONS THE ANSWERS TO WHICH APPEAR IN THE VIDEO INFO! THANK YOU! AND THANKS FOR WATCHING!* Excerpts from my May 9th lesson--thanks to my very oblinging boyfriend Dave for trekking out to videotape! Excuse the unsteadiness--Dave never used my camera before! I didn't get as much footage as I'd hoped. The horse I was riding, Magnum, is an older off-the-track Thoroughbred, and he tends to be stiff/arthritic in cold, wet weather. So of course, it rained non-stop the day of my lesson and it was about 20 degrees colder than it had been the day before! I didn't have Dave video our flatwork because it took Magnum awhile to loosen up so we couldn't do much. The things I've been working on in my previous 8 lessons at Fox View are primarily jumping issues. I have a lot of bad habits to work on: (1) I tend to get ahead on the take-off, resulting in my butt being way too far above the saddle in the air; (2) I tend to only bend at the waist in the air; (3) I tend to round my shoulders on the landing instead of keeping them flat; (4) I tend to sit down too early on the landing (related to problem #1). So, we've been working on getting me to: (1) Wait for the horse's motion to lift my butt out of the saddle instead of getting ahead; (2) Bend from the HIPS in the air ; (3) Keep my shoulders back on the landing; (4) Stay off the horse's back on the landing until he takes his first stride away from the fence. I think I've made some improvement in not getting ahead on take-off (my butt is much closer to where it should be in the air), but I still need to work on bending from the hips and keeping my shoulders back on the landing. I'm kind of hit or miss with remembering not to sit too early on the landing--in this lesson I was doing it more than I have been in my last several lessons. Overall, this wasn't my best lesson, but I see some improvements so I'm happy.
