F101-B VooDoo Plane Crash Site Bald Mountain Ellsworth, ME

In the early morning hours of April 11, 1961, Capt. Vernal Johnson and Lt. Edward Masaltis of the 75th Fighter Squadron crashed their F-101B Voodoo Jet Plane on the southerly face of Bald Mountain in Ellsworth, Maine while returning from an active air defense intercept off the coast in a freezing rain storm with zero visibility, the aircraft got to low on approach to DOW Airforce Base and struck the mountain.
