GLOBAL 3000 | Two Indonesian School Girls Discover Germany

More than 100 million people speak German as their mother tongue -- not very many, compared to Chinese which is spoken by some 1 billion. But those numbers say little about how widely a language is used around the world. For instance, German is now part of the standard curriculum at many schools in Indonesia. The German government hopes to encourage this trend by donating financial aid for teaching materials, instruction and scholarships. In our three-part series, GLOBAL 3000 accompanies two pupils from Indonesia as they explore Germany.
