There's a fantastic version of this gem of a song recorded by Esther Phillips right before her death ... however, if this one gets you depressed, better don' touch it. It's deep.

I also heard this song from Madea Goes to Jail. It was a movie by Tyler Perry. This song makes me so sad. It also makes me so depressed. It reminds me of past relationships that didn't work out. I really need to stop listening to this song.Makes me cry. :(

My oldest brother played this '45' (i.e. a vinyl single) to death when I was a kid. Many years later, when I learned a bit of music theory, I could better understand why I was so pulled by its three-quarter time rhythm, and I finally got the 'spinning' imagery of every item described in the lyrics (ever-spinning top, whirling, ever-rolling, whirlpool, round & round, spun-out, clock). I'm glad this record is an original part of my personal childhood. Props to the group & songwriters
